What is a SERP snippet?

A SERP snippet is the preview of your website in Google's search results. It consists of three elements: the page title (title tag), the meta description and the URL. The snippet decides whether a user clicks on your result or on a competitor's.

The page title should be at most 580 pixels wide (about 60 characters). The meta description should not exceed 990 pixels (about 160 characters). Longer content gets truncated by Google.

Special characters like ✓, ► or ★ increase attention in search results and can boost click-through rate (CTR). Keywords the user searches for are automatically bolded by Google.

Common questions.

Why pixel measurement, not just character count?+

Google measures the width of titles and descriptions in pixels, not characters. Different letters have different widths — a "W" is wider than an "i". If you only count characters, you sometimes miss the real limit.

How accurate is the preview?+

The preview is based on Google's current desktop layout (as of 2026). Mobile looks similar but slightly narrower. Important: Google sometimes overrides titles and descriptions if they don't fit the search intent.

Are special characters allowed?+

Yes, technically allowed. But Google increasingly filters them out or replaces them. Use special characters sparingly — 1-2 per snippet max, and always after the most important information.

What does the date before the description mean?+

For current or time-sensitive content, Google sometimes shows a date before the description ("3 days ago — …"). You can enable it in the preview to see how it looks. Actual display depends on Google's algorithm.

Are my inputs stored?+

No. All input runs purely in the browser. No data goes to a server. No cookies, no tracking from this tool.
